MnDNR Consolidated Tower Headquarters
Tower, Minnesota
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MnDNR)

LHB provided ecological high performance design for this DNR Regional Headquarters to enhance the DNR's commitment to work with the people of Minnesota to build a strong natural resources stewardship ethic.

LHB used ecological design tenets to help them develop a facility that is ecologically responsible by incorporating energy design and analysis, daylighting, site restoration, adaptable "new officing" and flexibility.

This facility takes elements of nature and brings them indoors to reference the Northern Minnesota wilderness. The site, a former gravel pit, took into consideration the area of prior disturbance. The building is situated, so occupants can be close to windows in order to optimize daylight, views and natural ventilation.

The building’s energy systems are currently performing according to our high performance design, thus they will provide a payback within less than two and a half years.

The 35,691 sq ft building space includes a field office, and heated and unheated storage/maintenance areas and is the largest DNR Headquarters building in Minnesota.
