Richard I. Bong World War II Heritage Center
Superior, Wisconsin
City of Superior

Working closely with the Bong P-38 Fund, Inc., LHB and Barbour LaDouceur partnered as the design team for the Richard I. Bong World War II Heritage Center in Superior, Wisconsin.

The LHB team began working with the client in 1994, hosting workshops to solicit input from the community. The idea was to build a heritage center around a hometown hero that would also educate a new generation about World War II and the region’s contributions to the war.

In addition to architectural and engineering design, LHB helped to develop videos and presentation materials to support fund raising for the Heritage Center staff. The project team was able to attract funds from the State, Counties, private individuals, corporations and foundations for a victory that made a dream into a reality in the Fall of 2002.

Today the Richard I. Bong World War II Heritage Center celebrates the accomplishments of Richard I. Bong, known as the “Ace of Aces,” a local World War II fighter pilot, and tells the story of America’s heroes on the war front and back home.

See 2003 Summer Perspectives “Bong Center Took Heroic Effort” for more details about this project.
