Project Type: Design Regulations
The Joint Commission has placed an added emphasis on the assessment of ligature, suicide, and self-harm observations during their facility surveys, including non-behavioral health units designated for the treatment of psychiatric patients such as Emergency Departments. This comes at a time when there is an increase in behavioral issues occurring within hospital emergency departments. As a result many hospitals are developing dedicated “safe rooms” that are ligature-resistant or that can be made ligature-resistant by having a system where fixed equipment can be excluded from the patient care area. Other emergency departments are developing entire behavioral holding sub-units within their emergency departments to segregate patients with behavioral issues from the rest of the emergency patients.
If your emergency department is struggling with these issues, LHB’s Healthcare Design Studio can assist in developing the correct solution. LHB focuses on providing practical solutions to meet your challenges. If you would like to meet with us to determine how LHB can be of assistance, contact Coral Digatono at 612.766.2861
