Brainerd Lakes Heart and Vascular Center
Project Type: Hospital Brainerd, MN
Client: St. Joseph’s Medical Center
Designed to consolidate all Cardiovascular Services provided by St. Joseph’s Medical Center, the new Brainerd Lakes Heart and Vascular Center expands existing capabilities by adding two interventional heart catheterization suites, cardiovascular diagnostic spaces, and clinical exam spaces within a new Cardiovascular Services addition to the hospital. This 20,000 sq ft heart and vascular clinic will improve the hospital’s capabilities and provide cardiology exams and diagnostics as well as interventional heart treatment to local residents. Located directly off of the main building lobby, the project involves both a horizontal and vertical expansion of an existing precast concrete structure.
Through discussions with administration and staff, the design of the new heart center was laid out to provide easy wayfinding for patients and allow efficient workflow for staff. The suite is divided into public, semi-restricted, and restricted zones. The public zone includes both the clinical exam spaces as well as diagnostic spaces and are located closest to the lobby for patient convenience. The semi-restricted and restricted zones are located progressively further into the suite, and include pre/post op, heart catheterization, and surgical support spaces. Staff offices are located between the public and semi-restricted spaces allowing staff easy and direct access to each.
