DECC Expansion Survey
Project Type: Topographic and Boundary Survey, Construction Staking; Duluth, MN
Client: Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center
In preparation for site improvements at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC), LHB prepared a topographic survey of the site in 2008 by surveying in the field for visible improvements and site conditions. This was integrated with prior site work and archival mapping to prepare a final topographic survey of the site. To assist with the proposed DECC Arena Expansion, LHB performed a boundary survey to identify property lines and setbacks. This required research, and field survey to determine platted and unplatted lands, street centerlines for Michigan Street, 5th Avenue West, Railroad Street, and Harbor Drive, Interstate 35 Alignment, State Commissioner Orders for Parcel Acquisitions and Turnbacks, and the United States Army Corps. of Engineer’s harbor line for the Duluth, Minnesota Harbor. Our coordination with the owner and approval agencies helped the proposed development to efficiently become a reality. LHB also assisted the contractor to properly site the DECC Arena Expansion. We provided grid control for the contractor layout and approval. We also performed layout for pilings, and as-builts of pile locations throughout construction. By effectively coordinating as-builts data with the geotechnical consultant, and structural engineers for the arena construction, the contractor was able to increase their efficiency on the site for construction activities, and improve timelines for the project.
