Green Prairie Living and Learning Center
Project Type: New Construction and Student Housing; Morris, MN
Client: University of Minnesota, Morris
LEED NC Gold Certified
The University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM) Residence Hall Advisory Committee selected LHB for the programming and design of a new 27,434 square foot suite-style hall for 72 students. Named the Green Prairie Living and Learning Community (GPLLC), the facility complements UMM’s focus on environmental sustainability by providing a building that demonstrates and educates residents and visitors about its green features while creating an intentional community of residents committed to learning with and from each other. Designed into a hill at the edge of the campus historic district, the GPLLC’s Prairie School style reflects the hip roofs and long eaves that are signature features of UMM’s historic buildings. Registered with the USGBC, this project is LEED NC Gold Certified.
“LHB’s team engaged with our Green Prairie Living and Learning Community Advisory Committee to incorporate the dreams of many diverse stakeholders into a creative design for a new suite-style residence hall. Through the process we valued LHB’s green design leadership, their research on state-of-the-art university residential life design and their collaborative approach to working with us. Thanks to their design leadership, we are creating a signature demonstration building for sustainable living and community on our campus.”
