Pharmacy USP 800 Compliance
Project Type: Pharmacy
In October the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) pushed back the compliance deadline for General Chapter USP800 from July 1, 2018 to December 1, 2019. While compliance may have been delayed, it hasn’t gone away. Will your facility be in compliance by December 1, 2019?
USP800 builds upon earlier USP795 and USP797 chapters, specifically covering storage and handling of hazardous drugs from the moment they arrive at your loading dock all the way through to the medicine’s disposal. Does your pharmacy provide the following safeguards:
- A receiving area where hazardous drugs can be sorted and separated from non-hazardous drugs.
- A separate storage room where hazardous drugs can be stored under the proper pressure relationship to adjacent spaces.
- Compounding rooms accessed through a compliant ante-room arrangement.
- Compounding rooms with proper pressure relationships to adjacent spaces.
If you think you have compliance issues in your Pharmacy, now is the time to begin developing the solution. The compliance deadline is less than 21 months away and the process, including assessment, design, and construction, could take eight (8) months or more depending on the complexity of the solution.
LHB’s Healthcare Design Studio provides practical solutions to meet your compliance issues. LHB is currently assisting several clients with their USP 800 updates. For an initial assessment of your facility contact Coral Digatono at 612.766.2861.
