LHB was hired to design a secondary containment tank for the current chlorine dioxide storage tanks in the event of a leak. The secondary containment was required due to the hazardous nature of the liquid and to reduce the rate of flow into the local wastewater treatment plant to eliminate shocking the treatment system. The concrete tank structure was designed according to the ACI 350.2R-04 Concrete Structures for Containment of Hazardous Materials and the ACI 350-06 Requirements for Environmental Engineering Concrete Structures standard. The Containment tank is designed to be water tight and will capture and hold the chlorine dioxide in the event the primary storage tank fails. The tank is an above ground concrete tank designed to hold 120,000 gallons and allow for a controlled drainage of the captured product into the wastewater system.
