Project Type: Affordable Housing Renovation
Client: CommonBond Communities
LHB worked with Redesign, Inc. to provide design services for the renovation of the Seward Towers East and West, originally built in 1969/1970. Seward Towers hosts over 300 units of affordable housing in each tower (altogether 640 units), participating in the Project-Based Section 8 and associated programs. Seward lies southeast of downtown Minneapolis, is bordered by the Mississippi River and is one of five neighborhoods in the greater Longfellow Community. The 21 floor buildings are the tallest buildings in the neighborhood with views of the city. The design team worked closely with local neighborhood groups to develop a shared vision including a focus on sustainable stormwater management methods and transit-oriented design principles. Improved infrastructure around the site was established to better connect residential areas and overall accessibility.
