LHB contributes to achieving Minnesota’s greenhouse gas emission reduction goals through a range of projects from the city to state scales.
- Energy, climate, and resilience planning
- Web-based planning tool development
- Data collection, analysis, visualization
Regional Indicators Initiative
LHB leads the Regional Indicators Initiative (RII), which provides Minnesota local governments with planning tools and actual results to measure progress toward their energy and carbon reduction goals.
Initially created to collect and share community-wide data for key metrics (energy, water, travel, waste, and greenhouse gas emissions), RII has expanded to include case studies of exemplar cities, a wedge diagram tool to explore the impacts of reduction strategies, and energy planning templates.
SLP Climate Action Plan
As a consultant hired to assist in developing St. Louis Park’s Climate Action Plan, LHB helped chart a pathway toward the City’s goal of community-wide carbon-neutrality by 2040 by estimating the impact of various efficiency and decarbonization strategies. Using the LHB-developed RII wedge diagram tool, the strategies outlined in the Plan are estimated to achieve a 62% reduction from the city’s business-as-usual forecast in 2040.
MN 2025 Energy Action Plan
Funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, Minnesota’s 2025 Energy Action Plan engaged stakeholders to establish the state’s current energy landscape and a set of actionable steps to advance clean and affordable energy in Minnesota.
LHB led the development of baseline metrics and graphics that depict Minnesota’s energy landscape and identify areas with the greatest potential for improvement through implementation of near-term strategies.
Roseville Comprehensive Plan
LHB helped the City of Roseville develop the Resilience and Environmental Protection chapter of their 2040 Comprehensive Plan Updates, which will be used to continue to shape the character of the community while guiding growth and redevelopment.
With resilience as a newly added focus in this version of the plan, LHB led the process of establishing goals and strategies to reduce community-wide greenhouse gas emissions, equitably reduce climate-related risks to City residents, and increase renewable energy adoption.
