Project Type: Pre-design
Client: Cloquet Area Fire District
The Cloquet Area Fire District is the first independent fire and ambulance special district in Minnesota that provides fire suppression to the communities of Cloquet and Scanlon and the Township of Perch Lake.
LHB and Five Bugles Design facilitated a pre-design process for the District to determine the appropriate strategy for consolidating two existing fire stations into one new state-of-the-art station strategically located in the District.
Our work included evaluations of the current facilities, programming, space planning, developing building design concepts in a charrette forum, site survey, site analysis, wetland delineation, and cost analysis. In addition, our team facilitated discussions with public finance experts to help the District understand their options for financing a project under the special legislative authorization.
Subsequently, our team designed a 38,000 sf, two-story headquarters fire station that includes apparatus bays, administration and support areas on the first floor, and firefighter’s living quarters on the second floor. The design consists of 13 apparatus bays which can be included as alternates or future as the budget allows. The design progressed through the Design Development Phase where it was placed on hold pending funding.
