Project Type: Condition Assessment
Client: End-O-Line Railroad Park and Museum
LHB provided a condition assessment report for the historic railroad turntable in Currie, Minnesota. The original turntable was constructed in 1901 at its current location. The national register of historic places nomination form indicates that the turntable was enlarged to its current size in 1922.
The team conducted its assessment and met with ERPM and Murray County Museum staff who provided background on the site and museum operations as well as upkeep and general maintenance concerns related to the turntable.
Since preservation efforts began in 1972, the turntable has gone through several repair campaigns and remains generally in good condition.
Our team provided recommendations that included:
- Remedying the standing water issue at the bottom of the pit
- Repairing the dry stacked masonry walls which were deteriorating, particularly at the north side of the pit.
- Dressing the stone faces where turntable currently hits
- Repairing the guardrail where supports are loose
