Project Type: Historic Conditions Assessment, Masonry Stabilization, Structural Design Services, Restoration Services, Electrical Engineering, Construction Administration
Client: Armory Arts & Music Center and Forever Young Historic Rehabilitation, LLLP
LHB has worked on a variety of projects at the Historic Duluth Armory Arts and Music Center over the years including:
This building is a historic masonry structure that is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This project included an initial condition study to determine/verify the scope of work for the masonry restoration. We developed masonry restoration documents that met the Secretary of the Interiors Standards and conformed to the Owners established budget. LHB also provided Construction Administration during the restoration.
This project was primarily funded by a Minnesota Historical Society (MHS) Legacy Grant and was under the purview of the MN State Historic Preservation Office.
Drill Hall Floor Design and Restoration
LHB performed investigation work to determine the extent of damage before moving on to the design phase. The floor was damaged during the time that the City used the building as a Public Works garage and parked heavy equipment there. LHB provided structural engineering design for the replacement of the existing floor, making sure to preserve the building’s historic pieces as much as possible.
LHB has also provided electrical engineering services on the first floor that were needed as part of flood repairs. Our professionals also assisted with electrical engineering when the drill floor hall collapsed.
Phase 2 Architectural/Engineering Design Services
LHB was selected to plan and design a phased reuse of the historic Duluth Armory for multiple tenants including the Armory Arts and Music Center, food production, public market, offices, exhibit spaces, and artist studios.
