Project Type: Research
Client: Minnesota Department of Commerce Energy Division
The Impacts of Office Plug Load Reduction Strategies research study evaluated plug load energy usage in office buildings in Minnesota to determine the extent of the problem as well as testing solutions. LHB teamed with Seventhwave and CEE to conduct this multilevel field experiment funded by the Minnesota Department of Commerce Energy Division Conservation Applied Research and Development (CARD) grant program.
Energy savings were evaluated from multiple reduction strategies including advanced power strips, timers, computer power management, and behavior change campaigns. The study put plug loads into context and established effective reduction strategies for building owners, operators, and designers.
Findings and strategies were shared through a website, webinar, research paper, fact sheet, and presentations to Minnesota businesses and governmental agencies with the goal of communicating actionable strategies to achieve office building energy reduction.
