Project Type: New Construction and Adaptive Re-use Affordable Housing; Minneapolis, MN
When Dr. Martha Ripley established the first maternity hospital in Minnesota in 1886, she helped to meet a particular need for housing. To meet current housing needs, LHB designed the redevelopment of the former Ripley Maternity Hospital and site into 52 rental and 8 for-sale units, for households at very-low, low, moderate, and median income levels. The site of this mixed-income redevelopment in the Harrison Neighborhood of Minneapolis is on the National and Local Historic Registers of Historic Places. The project combines the rehabilitation and re-use of existing historic buildings with new construction. The infill buildings complete the redevelopment in keeping with the massing, material, and scale of previously demolished structures and preserves views of the site’s historic structures and open space.
