Client: US Fish and Wildlife Service
LHB provided design and construction administrative services for the new $5.8 million USFW Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and Headquarters Building. This 11,821 SF building includes a visitor lobby, exhibit area, bookstore, video theatre, multi-purpose rooms, office space, locker room, shower, breakroom, and storage space. The building features unique items such as in-floor heat, a metal roof, a photovoltaic system, rainwater harvesting, fiber cement siding, stone veneer accents, and exposed glu-lam trusses with decorative gusset plates. This project achieved LEED Gold Certification.
This project also involved the development of the 44-acre former industrial brownfield site originally owned by the automotive industry. Site design consisted of roads, trails, patios, a canoe landing, landscape, gate, and monumental sign.
